Concours des Grands Vins du Beaujolais

Beaujolais wines won medals at the Concours des Grands Vins du Beaujolais

02.02.2022, News

Every January, the largest Beaujolais wine competition brings together winemaking professionals from 12 appellations. Wines are tasted blindly, evaluated, the best receive awards.

Beaujolais’ largest wine competition, the Concours des Grands Vins du Beaujolais, is organized annually by Inter Beaujolais together with Armonia, a company that has been organizing world-famous wine competitions since 2009, such as Concours International de Lyon, Concours International des Cabernets, Concours des Grandsis du Grajos etc.

This year Concours des Grands Vins du Beaujolais took place on January 27, at which the Hospices de Beaujeu wines were awarded silver medals.

Since 2015, Maison François Martenot has been the exclusive partner of Hospices de Beaujeu. This partnership allows the Burgundy-based wine company to restore this historic estate to its former glory and at the same time enhance Beaujolais’ image through its marketing and sales experience.

In the 13th century, wealthy Beaujolais organized hospices to help the elderly, the sick and the needy, and the lords regularly donated money there. At the end of the 14th century, hospices were given the first vineyard, the wines of which were later sold at auctions. The first such auction took place on March 26, 1797, resulting in the sale of 30 lots of red wine from the Hospices winery. The funds raised were donated to the needy and sick, who receive help in the hospice to improve their treatment, as well as to accommodate new patients. Despite the fact that the practice of auctions has stopped since 2007, Hospices de Beaujeu continues to sell wines from wineries through direct sales. From each bottle sold, part of the proceeds goes to Beaujolais Hospital, as well as to help Alzheimer’s sufferers. Today, Hospices de Beaujeu wines are sold in France and more than 30 countries.
